ECLIPSE Travel Mirror Guide: Battery, Light Modes and Stand Tips

ECLIPSE Travel Mirror Guide: Battery, Light Modes and Stand Tips - LUNA London

Last updated: Friday 16 October 2026

Summary: ECLIPSE is a slim, rechargeable light-up mirror built to fix bad hotel and bathroom lighting, not a magnifying mirror. You get the most from it by charging it fully before a trip, switching it off properly when you pack it, folding the cover back so it stands firmly, and choosing the right light mode for the job.

Most travel mirrors are bought to solve one problem: the light where you are getting ready is terrible. A light-up travel mirror puts even, front-facing light on your face wherever you are, which is why the light and how easily it packs are the two things buyers praise most.

This guide is for anyone who owns an ECLIPSE, is about to give one, or is deciding whether a rechargeable travel mirror with light is right for them. If you are still comparing travel mirrors, start with our guide to the best travel makeup mirror, then come back here for the practical side.

In a hurry? The short version:

  • It lights, it does not magnify. ECLIPSE (£49.99) is a plain lit mirror. For close-up brows or lashes, choose COMPACT 2.0 (1x and 7x) or ORBIT (7x mini mirror).
  • Charge it fully before you travel, using the cable in the box.
  • Switch it off at the back before you pack it, so it is not quietly draining in your case.
  • Fold the cover behind the mirror to make the stand, rather than trying to balance it half open.
  • Use daylight mode for makeup and warm light for winding down. Lower brightness makes each charge last longer.

Quick fixes: what goes wrong and what to check

What you notice The usual cause What to try If it still happens
Flat when you unpack it It was left switched on in standby during the journey Charge fully, then use the switch on the back to turn it off before packing Contact our team at support@lunalondon.com
Does not last a whole trip Running at full brightness for every session Drop the brightness a step or two, and top up overnight on a longer trip Tell us how long a full charge lasts for you
Will not hold its angle The cover is half open rather than folded right back Fold the cover fully behind the mirror so it forms the stand Try a flat, hard surface rather than a duvet or towel
Cannot see fine detail ECLIPSE has no magnification Move a little closer and use daylight mode for colour For brows and lashes, pair it with COMPACT 2.0 (7x)
Makeup looks different outside You applied it in warm light Switch to natural daylight mode for base and blusher Do a final check by a window if you can

⚡ PRO INSIGHT: Many "it will not hold a charge" worries are really a standby problem. A mirror that is never fully switched off keeps using a little power in your case. Fully off for the journey, fully charged before you leave: those two habits solve most travel battery frustrations.

1. Know what ECLIPSE is for (and what it is not)

ECLIPSE is a slim, fold-flat travel mirror with three dimmable light modes: warm, neutral white and natural daylight. It measures 11 x 7.5 inches (about 28 x 19cm), stands on a tabletop, charges by USB, and comes with a charging cable and a soft travel protection sleeve, all in gift-ready packaging. It is designed for the moments when the room's light lets you down: hotel rooms, guest bathrooms, the desk at work, a dressing table in a dark corner.

What it does not do is magnify. Its reflection is true to size, which suits whole-face jobs. The most common misunderstanding we see from buyers is expecting a close-up view from it. If you need that for tweezing, lash work or contact lenses, you want a mirror with a magnified side.

  • Whole-face makeup, skincare and grooming: ECLIPSE.
  • Close-up detail away from home: COMPACT 2.0, a 5-inch compact with a lit 1x side and a 7x side.
  • Close-up detail at home: ORBIT, with an 11-inch mirror and a detachable 7x mini mirror.

Not sure how much magnification you would actually use? Our guide Do you need a 7x magnifying mirror? walks through it.

2. Charge it fully before you leave

A mirror that has sat in a drawer since your last trip will not be full, and the first morning away is not the time to find out.

  1. Charge it the evening before you pack, using the USB cable supplied in the box.
  2. Charge on a hard surface, not on a bed or under clothes, and unplug it once it is full. That is good practice for any rechargeable device.
  3. Pack the cable, because on a longer trip a quick top-up overnight keeps you covered.
Giving ECLIPSE as a gift? Charge it before you wrap it. Then it works the moment the paper comes off.

3. Switch it off properly for the journey

ECLIPSE has a switch on the back as well as the light controls on the front. Turning the light off at the front is fine between uses at home. Before it goes into a case, though, switch it off at the back too. That stops it sitting in standby for the whole journey, and stops the light being knocked on by accident while it is packed.

This matters for flying as well. The UK Civil Aviation Authority says portable electronic devices should be carried as carry-on baggage, that "measures must be taken to prevent unintentional activation and to protect the devices from damage", and that any device going in the hold must be "completely switched off (not in sleep or hibernation mode)". You can read the rules on the CAA's packing safety advice page. The simplest habit is to keep ECLIPSE in your hand luggage, switched off, in its sleeve.

4. Make the stand hold its angle

The cover does two jobs: it protects the mirror in your bag, and it becomes the stand when you get ready. The trick is to fold it all the way round behind the mirror, rather than leaving it half open like a book. Folded fully back, it gives the mirror a stable base on a dressing table, desk or bathroom shelf.

  • Use a flat, hard surface. A duvet, a towel or a cushioned window seat will let it slip.
  • Set the angle before you start, then leave it. Adjusting it mid-routine with damp hands is when mirrors topple.

Want to use it at home too? Our guide to the hotel bathroom lighting fixes beauty pros use has more on where to place a lit mirror in a room with poor light.

5. Choose the right light mode, and the right brightness

The three light modes are not just a matter of taste. Each one suits a different job.

Light mode Best for Why
Natural daylight Foundation, concealer, blusher, brows Shows colour closest to how it will look outdoors
Neutral white Everyday checks, skincare, shaving A clear, balanced light for most routines
Warm Evening makeup, winding down Matches restaurant and evening lighting, and is gentler late at night

Brightness is the other half. Full brightness uses the most power, so if you are away for a week, start one or two steps lower. Our guide to warm, cool or natural light for makeup goes deeper into which setting suits which look.

⚡ PRO INSIGHT: Apply your base in daylight mode, then switch to warm for a 10-second final check if you are heading out for dinner. You will see whether your blusher and lipstick still work in the light you will actually be sitting in.

6. Pack it so it arrives looking new

ECLIPSE packs flat, so it fits in the laptop sleeve of a backpack, the side of a suitcase or a large handbag. A few habits keep it looking as good as the day it arrived:

  1. Always use the sleeve. It protects the mirror and finish from keys, zips and make-up brushes.
  2. Keep liquids away from it. Pack it in a different compartment from your toiletries bag, in case anything leaks.
  3. Clean it before you pack it. A soft, dry microfibre cloth removes powder and fingerprints. For more, see our guide to cleaning an LED mirror without streaks.
  4. Do not leave it in a hot car or on a sunny windowsill for long. Heat is hard on any rechargeable battery.

The sleeve comes in the box. Use it every time and the finish stays fresh.

7. If something is not right

Most issues come down to charging, standby or the stand, so it is worth trying the quick fixes table above first. If ECLIPSE still does not behave as it should, email our team at support@lunalondon.com and we will help, usually within 48 hours. If it arrived faulty, let us know within 7 days of delivery. And if it simply is not right for you, you have 30 days from purchase to return it unused in its original packaging.

8. When another LUNA London mirror fits better

ECLIPSE is the right choice when the main problem is light. It is not the right choice on its own if:

  • Close-up detail is the main job. For brows, lashes and stray hairs, a 7x view matters more than a bigger mirror. COMPACT 2.0 (£39.99) gives you a lit 1x side and a 7x side in a 5-inch compact, and fits a handbag.
  • It will live on a dressing table. ORBIT (£119.99) has a larger 11-inch mirror, a detachable 7x mini mirror and turns between portrait and landscape.

Plenty of people end up with two: one for home, one for away. For a side-by-side look at all three, see ORBIT vs ECLIPSE vs COMPACT 2.0.

FAQs

Does the ECLIPSE travel mirror magnify?

No. ECLIPSE is a lit mirror with a true-to-size reflection, designed for whole-face makeup, skincare and grooming in poor light. If you need a close-up view for brows, lashes or contact lenses, COMPACT 2.0 has a 7x side and ORBIT has a detachable 7x mini mirror.

Why is my rechargeable travel mirror flat when I unpack it?

Usually because it was left in standby during the journey. Charge it fully before you travel, then switch it off at the back before you pack it, so it is not using power in your case. If it still loses charge quickly, contact support@lunalondon.com.

How do I make ECLIPSE stand up without slipping?

Fold the cover all the way round behind the mirror so it forms the stand, rather than leaving it half open. Stand it on a flat, hard surface such as a dressing table, desk or shelf, set the angle before you start, then leave it.

Which light mode should I use for makeup?

Natural daylight mode is best for foundation, concealer and blusher, because it shows colour closest to outdoor light. Neutral white suits everyday checks and shaving, and warm light matches restaurant and evening lighting. Lower brightness also makes each charge last longer.

Can I take ECLIPSE in my hand luggage?

The UK Civil Aviation Authority says portable electronic devices should be carried as carry-on baggage and protected from accidental switching on and damage. Keep ECLIPSE switched off, in its travel sleeve, in your hand luggage, and check your airline's own rules before you fly.
