Is the main mirror magnified? Which light mode should I use? How do I charge it? Will it fit my dressing table? This guide answers the questions people ask most, before and after buying, using only the facts from our product pages.
If you are still deciding between mirrors, our comparison of ORBIT vs ECLIPSE vs COMPACT 2.0 sets out which one suits which routine. If close-up vision is the reason you are looking, start with our guide to the best magnifying mirror for changing eyesight.
In a hurry? The short version:
- What it is: a rechargeable LED vanity mirror with an 11-inch main mirror, 3 dimmable light modes and a detachable 7X mini mirror. ORBIT is £119.99.
- The main mirror is not magnified. It shows your whole face at normal size. The 7X magnification is in the small detachable mirror.
- First day: charge it fully with the USB-C cable in the box, then try natural daylight mode for makeup and brows.
- Set-up: face it towards you at eye level when seated, and turn it to landscape or portrait to suit your space.
- Better value as a pair: ORBIT plus COMPACT 2.0 is £159.98, which qualifies for free standard UK delivery.
ORBIT at a glance: the questions people ask before they buy
| Your question | The plain answer | What to check | If it is not right for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Is the big mirror magnified? | No. The 11-inch main mirror is a normal view of your whole face. | Use the detachable 7X mini mirror for close detail. | Want magnification you can carry? COMPACT 2.0 has 1x and 7x sides. |
| How strong is the close-up? | 7X, in a small detachable mirror. | 7X suits brows, lashes, liner and stray hairs. It is not meant for the whole face. | See our guide on whether you need 7x. |
| Does it need a plug? | No. It runs on a rechargeable 4000mAh battery and charges by USB-C. | The USB-C cable is in the box. Charge fully before first use. | Not applicable: cordless use is the point. |
| What light does it give? | Three dimmable modes: warm, neutral white and natural daylight. | Start with daylight for makeup, then lower the brightness if it feels too strong. | For hotel rooms and trips, ECLIPSE folds flat. |
| Will it suit my space? | It stands on a dressing table, desk or shelf and turns between portrait and landscape. | Leave a flat, stable spot for the base, close to where you sit. | 30-day returns if it is unused and in its original packaging. |
⚡ PRO INSIGHT: The most common surprise with any vanity mirror with lights is expecting the whole mirror to magnify. A normal-size main mirror is deliberate: you need to see your whole face to blend foundation, check symmetry and judge the finished look. Magnification is for the last, fiddly details.
1. What ORBIT is, and what it is not
ORBIT is a light-up mirror made for getting ready at home. It gives you a clear, front-facing view for makeup, skincare and grooming, so you are not relying on an overhead bathroom bulb that throws shadows under your brows and jaw.
Here is what is in it:
- An 11-inch main mirror for full-face visibility.
- Three dimmable light modes: warm, neutral white and natural daylight.
- A detachable 7X magnifying mini mirror for brows, skincare and other close-up tasks.
- Portrait and landscape positioning, with easy angle adjustment.
- A rechargeable 4000mAh battery, so it works cord-free.
- A USB-C charging cable, included in the box.
What it is not: it is not a fully magnified mirror, and it is not a travel mirror. If you want something to take away, ECLIPSE (no magnification, folds flat) or COMPACT 2.0 (1x and 7x, fits a handbag) will serve you better. More on that below.
2. How to use the 7X mini mirror
At 7X you see a small patch of skin in great detail: exactly right for one job, and wrong for the whole face.
A simple routine that works:
- Do the main work in the main mirror. Skincare, base, blusher and the overall shape of your brows all need the full view.
- Switch to the 7X mirror for one detail. A stray brow hair, the line of your liner, a lash that has clumped, a missed patch under the jaw.
- Step back to the main mirror to check. What looks perfect at 7X can look heavy at normal size, so always finish with the full view.
Because the mini mirror is detachable, you can lift it off when you want to bring the close-up nearer. Treat it gently, as you would a pair of glasses.
If the mini mirror does not stay in place. If yours does not hold firmly, please do not put up with it: email support@lunalondon.com. Our team usually replies within 48 hours, and if an item is faulty, our returns policy asks you to tell us within 7 days of delivery so we can put it right.
3. Which light mode to use, and when
ORBIT has three light modes, and each one is dimmable. They are not there for decoration: the colour of light changes how your makeup and skin look.
- Natural daylight: the best starting point for makeup, brows and checking colour, because it is closest to how you will look outdoors.
- Neutral white: a good middle ground for skincare and for checking how you will look in an office or under typical indoor lighting.
- Warm: softer and kinder in the evening, for removing makeup or a slow night-time routine.
If the light feels glaring, turn it down rather than moving the mirror away. For more on colour temperature, see our guide to good lighting for makeup.
⚡ PRO INSIGHT: If your makeup looks perfect at home and different outside, do your final check in natural daylight mode. Warm light hides redness and uneven blending, which is lovely in the evening and misleading at 8am.
4. Charging and the battery
ORBIT runs on a rechargeable 4000mAh battery, which means it can sit wherever the light suits you rather than wherever there is a socket. It charges with the USB-C cable supplied in the box.
- Charge it fully before you first use it. A full first charge gives you a fair picture of how it performs.
- Top it up when you notice the light dimming, rather than waiting for it to switch off mid-routine.
- Use a proper charger. London Fire Brigade warns against cheap counterfeit chargers for anything with a lithium battery and advises not leaving phones and laptops charging overnight. The same common sense applies to any rechargeable device. Its electrical safety advice is worth a read.
We do not publish a battery-life figure for ORBIT, so we will not guess one here. If it ever stops holding a charge the way it did when new, contact our support team.
5. Setting it up so it works every day
- At face height when seated. You should look straight into the main mirror, not down into it.
- Close enough to reach. You want your elbow resting on the table, not stretching forward.
- Portrait or landscape. Portrait suits a narrow dressing table and a head-and-shoulders view. Landscape gives more width for doing hair or for two people sharing.
- On a flat, stable surface. Give the base its own clear spot, away from the edge.
If you are planning a whole dressing table around it, our dressing table set-up guide covers lighting, layout and storage. For cleaning without streaks, see how to clean an LED mirror.

The new colour
ORBIT in Espresso Brown
The same 11-inch lit mirror, three light modes and detachable 7X mini mirror, in a warm, deep brown that sits well with wood dressing tables and darker rooms.
6. Buying ORBIT as a Christmas gift
ORBIT makes a thoughtful present for a partner or parent who gets ready at a dressing table every morning. A few things make it land well:
- Match the room, not your taste. Phantom Black and Espresso Brown suit darker, wood-led rooms. Chalk Grey, Soft Stone and Alpine White suit lighter ones.
- Charge it before you wrap it, so it works the moment it is opened.
- Show them the 7X mini mirror and the daylight mode on the day. That two-minute demo is what turns a gift into a daily habit.
- Add COMPACT 2.0 for the handbag. Together, ORBIT and COMPACT 2.0 come to £159.98, which means free standard UK delivery, and they cover getting ready at home and every touch-up after.

7. When another LUNA London mirror fits better
ORBIT is our mirror for home. If your needs are different, we would rather you buy the right one.
- You travel a lot: ECLIPSE (£49.99) folds flat for packing and lights your face in hotel rooms. It has no magnification. Our travel mirror guide explains when it beats COMPACT 2.0.
- You want magnification in your bag: COMPACT 2.0 (£39.99) is a 5-inch round mirror with 1x and 7x sides and three light modes. The lit side is the 1x side; the 7x side is not lit.

FAQs
Is the ORBIT mirror magnified?
The main 11-inch mirror is not magnified: it shows your whole face at normal size. ORBIT also comes with a detachable 7X magnifying mini mirror for close-up jobs such as brows, lashes and liner.
What should I do if the 7X mini mirror slips?
Email support@lunalondon.com. Our team usually replies within 48 hours. If an item arrives faulty, our returns policy asks you to tell us within 7 days of delivery so we can put it right.
How do I charge ORBIT?
With the USB-C cable that comes in the box. ORBIT has a rechargeable 4000mAh battery, so once charged it works without a cable. Charge it fully before first use and top it up when the light starts to dim.
Which ORBIT light mode is best for makeup?
Natural daylight is the best starting point for makeup and brows, because it shows colour most like outdoor light. Neutral white suits skincare and office-style lighting, and warm is softer for evenings. All three are dimmable.
